FAQ
1. Can I use Renogy Plug-in Solar 2400 with my existing solar system?
1. Can I use Renogy Plug-in Solar 2400 with my existing solar system?
Yes. Renogy Plug-in Solar 2400 supports AC coupling and is 100% compatible with microinverters on the market, so it can be added directly to your existing solar system without replacing your current microinverter. For direct PV connection, it also supports a wide range of mainstream solar panels with an 18–60V input range and up to 4,000Wp total PV input.
2. How does the Smart Meter work with Plug-In Solar 2400, and can I use my existing one?
2. How does the Smart Meter work with Plug-In Solar 2400, and can I use my existing one?
The Smart Meter tracks your home’s real-time energy use and sends this data to the RENOGY HOME App. With Smart Mode enabled in the Renogy App, the app automatically adjusts charging and feed-in based on your household demand, helping you make better use of stored energy and reduce unnecessary grid use.
If you already have a compatible third-party Smart Meter, you may not need to purchase an additional Renogy Smart Meter. Plug-in Solar 2400 also supports compatible third-party Smart Meters. The Renogy Smart Meter is an energy monitoring accessory for Plug-in Solar 2400 and is separate from the smart meter provided by your electricity supplier.
3. How do AI energy management and dynamic tariffs help me save?
3. How do AI energy management and dynamic tariffs help me save?
Renogy AI Energy Management brings together electricity prices, weather, solar generation forecasts, household energy use and system status to create a smarter charging and discharging plan. With dynamic tariff support from 26+ UK electricity providers, including Octopus, the system can store energy when rates are lower and use it when rates rise—so you can save more without having to work out the best charging times yourself. You can also switch to custom or manual control whenever you want.
4. What does 2.4kW AC charging mean for me?
4. What does 2.4kW AC charging mean for me?
With up to 2.4kW AC charging, a 2.4kWh battery can be fully charged in about 1 hour under ideal conditions. This helps you make better use of short off-peak windows by storing more lower-cost electricity before rates rise again. Actual charging time may vary depending on starting SOC, temperature, and system charging conditions.
5. Can I use the system without solar panels?
5. Can I use the system without solar panels?
Yes. Plug-in Solar 2400 supports AC coupling and can work with existing solar systems using string inverters or microinverters. For direct PV connection, it also supports compatible solar panels within an 18–60V input range, with up to 4,000Wp total PV input.
6. Can I install the system outdoors? Is it safe in rain or cold weather?
6. Can I install the system outdoors? Is it safe in rain or cold weather?
Yes, in a suitable sheltered outdoor location. Plug-in Solar 2400 has an IP65-rated enclosure and operates from -20°C to 55°C, making it suitable for changing outdoor conditions. Its long-lasting LFP battery is designed for everyday home energy use, while built-in protection covers risks such as overcurrent, short circuits, overheating, voltage faults, residual current and surges. For outdoor installation, we recommend keeping the unit away from direct rain and prolonged direct sunlight. The battery is backed by a 5-year warranty.
7. Can I use the system during a power outage?
7. Can I use the system during a power outage?
Yes. Plug essential appliances directly into the dedicated off-grid AC outlet, and the system can provide up to 2.4kW of backup power with a switching time of ≤10ms. It is designed to keep selected appliances running during an outage rather than provide whole-home backup through the normal grid connection.
8. Does Plug-in Solar 2400 meet UK grid connection requirements, and do I need an electrician to install it?
8. Does Plug-in Solar 2400 meet UK grid connection requirements, and do I need an electrician to install it?
Yes. Plug-in Solar 2400 meets G98 requirements and is registered with the ENA for the UK market. For installations involving AC feed-in or AC coupling, installation and grid notification should be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local DNO requirements.

1. Savings & Payback
Estimated savings and payback periods are illustrative and based on internal modelling using reference UK household electricity consumption, solar generation and electricity tariffs. Solar savings assume a reference electricity price of approximately £0.26/kWh. TOU savings assume approximately 8.5p/kWh off-peak and 29.37p/kWh peak rates, with 95% charging and discharging efficiency. The up to £1,180 annual saving and approximately 2.1-year payback correspond to the Higher Energy Use scenario and recommended configuration shown on this page. Payback includes estimated storage and solar panel costs but excludes professional installation and other associated costs. Actual results may vary depending on location, weather, system configuration, electricity tariffs and household energy use.
2. DIY Cable Availability
The DIY cable for on-grid wiring is not included in the current package and will be provided separately at a later date.
3. Professional Installation Required
A qualified electrician is required to install the product and connect it to your home electrical system.
