What size inverter do I need?
Renogy offers 12V Pure Sine Wave Inverters from 700W to 3000W, capable of delivering
superior performance for off-grid applications such as in a cabin, an RV, or on a boat.
They provide stable power for loads that are sensitive to AC voltage variations.
Do I need an Inverter with my solar system?
An inverter is only necessary if you plan to power A/C or 120-volt loads, which require
How do I size out an inverter?
For example, if you planned to run three loads such as a fan, an LED light, and a water
the same time, and the total of these loads was 800-watts per hour, we would recommend
going with a 1,000-watt inverter.
Where should the inverter be mounted?
We recommend mounting the inverter within five feet of the batteries to limit any
Please Note: If you plan on powering A/C loads, you'll need to divide the rated watts
of each load by the battery bank's operational voltage.
For example, a 200-watt A/C load divided by 12-volts equals an hourly amperage
consumption of 16-17 amps per hour.
Then, by multiplying the amperage consumption by the approximate runtime,
you'll get the amp-hours needed to run your loads. In this case, 17 amps multiplied
by 2 hours equals 34 amp-hours.
Doing this helps to determine whether or not the battery bank can handle the
sum of simultaneous loads or if the battery needs to be sized up to ensure it
will not deplete.
