Warranty Information

Material and workmanship warranty 2 Year

Certification

1. What type of alternator is this on-board battery charger compatible with?

This battery charger is compatible with both traditional and smart alternators. However, since standard/traditional alternator has a fixed voltage when charging, while smart alternator has a controlled charging output based on operating conditions, it is required to connect the charger to the smart alternator through the Vehicle Ignition Port by the IGN Signal Wire comes with the package.
2. What will happen if the service battery is fully charged?

This Renogy's DC to DC MPPT on-board Battery Charger has a built-in Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR), thanks to which the charger will Trickle Charge the service battery and maintain its fully charged status, and will also Trickle Charge the starting battery via solar panels. The VSR also ensures reliable isolation between the starting battery and service battery, avoiding charging interference.
3. What types of battery does the charger support?

This controller supports Gel, AGM, Flooded, and Lithium battery, but please make sure to set the correct battery type once it is installed. For battery settings please refer to the Manual Book on page 12&15.
4. How do I set the battery since there is no display screen?

To change the battery type you will need to press the push button that is located on the PV+ and ALT+ side of the DCDC, then continue to press the button and the LED will display different colors with each representing a single type of battery. Please refer to the manual on page 15 for Battery Type LED.
NOTES

1. Do not reverse the polarity since the reverse polarity of the battery connections can cause injury and damage to the device.

2. When connecting the charger and the battery, make sure the battery poles are clean when connecting the terminals, select a sufficient cross-section for the connection cable, tighten the nuts and bolts with proper torque as loose connections may cause overheating.

3. Be careful not to over-torque the terminals on the DCDC as over-torquing may cause irreparable damage (Do not exceed 16 N-m / 3.3 ft-lb).

4. Use the following cable colors:

Red: positive connection

Black: negative connection

5. If the battery charger is connected to the starting battery and solar panels at the same time, the maximum input current will be 15A for each; if the battery charger only connects one of the two DC inputs, the maximum input current will be 30A.

A brilliant charge with some issues and one major heating issue

Posted by Unknown on Mar 5th 2024

Been using the 50 amp charger for almost 2 years to charge 2 AGM batteries, No issues to report for these batteries. Bought a 170 lithium battery from renogy 4 months ago and one major issue shows up every-time. The charger will overheat and go into error 6 mode when driving using the alternator. Why it does this, the lithium battery will take the full 50 amps until it reaches 14.4 volts. I use a solar cut off switch to gain the full power when driving, this is causing an overheating issue and is the same when the solar has turned itself off when dark. The charger is overheating in Scotland in Mid winter and where the charger sits its about 15c and it has plenty of air. Renogy you need to have active cooling like a small inbuilt fan to fix the overheating? I use a small fan to help it stop overheating. The large terminal screw bolts are far too short for large cables and is a struggle to get the cables screwed down, All you need to fix this problem are longer terminal screw bolts. In countries like the U where the sun is low or never out at all, you need to add a solar power cut off switch, this will fool the charger in thinking its nigh so will go from 50% 25 amps per 50 mode to 100% mode. So if you leave the solar on on a cloudy day, yo will get 25 amps from the alternator and maybe 1 amps from the solar, you are then losing around 24 amps. I would like to see the charger use an algorithm when driving, so it measure the solar output which would gain what ever it needs from the alternator. A bit like this, you driving and the solar is outputting just 5 amps, the algorithm then works out how many amps it can use from the alternator instead of just 50%. so would be 45 amps from the alternator and 5 from the solar making up the 50 amps. I give it 5 stars because I have fixed all the faults apart from the short terminal bolts, but TBH I shouldn't have to fix any!

Brilliant with room for improvement - but easy to DIY

Posted by Unknown on Mar 5th 2024

Love it. But in the UK, PV output isn't great. So added a 60A rated relay to cut off the PV input, controlled by the D+ (engine on) feed on my Sprinter W906, so can charge LiFePO4 batteries at 50A from ALT input (need appropriately sized cable from starter battery) when the engine is running. If Renogy added this already, or adjusted the charging algorithm to accommodate such scenario (low PV power) it would be perfect. Haven't observed any overheating issues, but may add a 12v computer fan to help shift some air across the rear just in case. Also would like an option to dual charge [from PV] both starter battery and leisure battery (eg before leisure battery is full) in case static for some time to keep starter battery topped off, but would need dual charging logic (lead acid vs LiFePO4) so maybe a bit much to ask.

Nice fan-moves a good volume of air and is quiet.

Posted by Unknown on Mar 5th 2024

Overall I"m really pleased with this little bladeless fan. It moves a good volume of air and does a good job at keeping me cool. I love that it"s very quiet, so it"s great for my bedroom. It offers a good variety of speeds, ranging from a light Breeze to pretty strong air flow. The sleep timer is also great since it allows me to set the timer before I go to bed, and it"ll automatically turn itself off during the night and save electricity. The remote control feature is also great for my purposes since it allows me to control the fan from the comfort of my bed.I think it"s a good value for the money and I would buy it again.

4 out of 5 starsIt"s doing what I need it to.

Posted by Unknown on Mar 5th 2024

I use mine to charge my LifeP04 battery which it"s doing very well. Thankfully my battery has Bluetooth connectivity, so I can see what the charger"s doing. It gives a very reliable 20 amps. If I"'m running my car fridge and that kick"s in then the charge will show 17 amps on the battery. At first I thought that there was a problem but then I realised.I can"t see the fridge while driving so it wasn"t that obvious. My car once had a flat battery and this confused the unit. I had to disconnect all the wires going into it to clear the fault light. I also wired it to a switchable live signal because I don't want the leisure battery to always be full. They last longer if you keep them below 90%. My BMS has an on-screen switch to stop the charge but, it also stopped the % used from working.

    DC-DC 50amp plus MPPT

Posted by Unknown on Mar 5th 2024

We install this kit in our campervan builds here at Leitholm Campervans Ltd. Easy to install/set up too. Comes with a good installation instruction manual if you’re not 100% sure about the wiring. Links well to the smartphone via Renogy M1 and the BT2 Bluetooth unit. No complaints from us.
